We think we have outsmarted God this day and age. We throw his law out because it doesn't apply to us, so we say. In reality, we have brought the curses that he warned the Israelites long ago about in Exodus 15:26 " If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals."
The Israelites were led by God, though many times they felt God was harsh, and left them to die. Many times they complained. In fact right after they were delivered from the bondage of the Egyptians, they found bitter water, and once again, cried to God, what will we do, but as always He came through healed the waters and made the promise stated above.
It was simple really. Obey my commandments. Read them, and do what they say. What's the difference between that and following the directions to building or constructing something we just bought from the store? The difference is the thing being constructed is our hearts, and some of the work God does to our hearts hurts before it heals, and we flinch, resist and question whether or not it's right. We lack faith.
I could go on with the the humanistic mindset in the world today. Anything that hurts must be wrong is what the world tells us. If we spank our children, it's considered abuse, if we look to God's commands that teach marriage is between a man and a woman, we are discriminating against gays. I challenge anyone to show me in scripture where God spared the feelings of those who sinned. Jesus never spared the feelings of wrong doing. He however, did resond with compassion, and grace. His laws were put in place so we would have a guide to know what is best for us. Just as our earthly fathers do as we are growing up. We may not like all of God's laws. They may not make sense to us, and may go against our fleshly desires, but in the end, if we obey His commands, we will be blessed, because God is the creator, and He knows what we need for our bodies and our spirits.
